Dr. David Scharp, MD, trained, taught, and worked at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO for 30 years as a Professor of Surgery and researcher in islet transplantation. Dr. Scharp has been awarded numerous NIH and JDRF research grants. 

Along with work at Prodo Laboratories, the world’s top producer of islets for the research community, Dr. Scharp is presently researching and developing clinical products at the Scharp Lacy Research Institute, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) focusing on Diabetes, Stem Cell, and Dupuytren’s Disease.

Dave Austin, Ph.D., J.D. (CSO)

David Austin, PhD, JD - CSO

David has a Ph.D. in organic chemistry with a postdoc in biotechnology. David was a professor in the Chemistry Department at Yale University, where his laboratory developed a novel phage-display drug discovery platform upon which he co-founded Ambit Biosciences. He also served as Director of Medicinal Chemistry at Rib-X Pharmaceuticals (now Melinta Therapeutics). Specific experience includes chemical processes, small molecules, medicinal chemistry, extended-release formulations, IV drug formulations, organic polymers, biopolymers, antibodies, and biotechnology.

David has extensive litigation, patent prosecution, and intellectual property counseling experience as an attorney. In litigation, he has represented clients in numerous ANDA and biosimilar litigations, polymer litigations, trade secret misappropriation, technology licenses, and contract disputes. David has also prosecuted patents, performed freedom-to-operate, opinion work, and inter partes reviews in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, polymers, small-molecule drugs, antibodies, and biosimilars.

Raymond Raven, MD

Dr. Raymond Raven is an Orthopaedic Specialist with subspecialty training in Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery. He is distinguished as one of few surgeons who is triple board certified in Orthopedic Surgery and has Certificates of Added Qualification in Surgery of the Hand and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. Dr. Raven has cared for thousands of patients with fractures, sports related injuries, and arthritis and has extensive experience treating upper extremity conditions affecting performance artists. Dr. Raven is well regarded for his expertise in reconstruction of the hand, wrist and elbow and has received advanced training at the institution where the standard of care for the treatment of thumb arthritis was established. 

Dr. Raven is the CEO and Managing Partner of the OSS Health Network in Burbank, CA, a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment center for musculoskeletal conditions. Dr. Raven is highly experienced in the three most common treatment options for the treatment of Dupuytren’s contractures, which include collagenase (enzyme) injection therapy, needle aponeurotomy, and surgical fasciectomy. He founded the Dupuytren’s Center of California, whose mission is to provide education and comprehensive treatment options to patients with Dupuytren’s Disease. Prior to March 1, 2010, Dr. Raven was the only hand surgeon in California experienced with all three methods of treating Dupuytren’s disease. As a principal investigator during Phase II clinical trials for the collagenase enzyme, Dr. Raven gained early clinical experience using collagenase, treating 31 patients with the drug before it was commercially available.  Dr. Raven is deeply involved with patient advocacy and holds leadership positions in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and sits on the Board of Directors for the California Orthopedic Association.

Jonathan Tueting, MD

Jonathan Tueting, MD is an Associate Clinical Professor with Rush Copley Medical Center in Chicago, IL.  He also co-directs the Hand and Upper Extremity Center at RCMC.  Prior to being recruited to Chicago, he spent ten years as an Associate Professor and Chief of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.  He also served as the Vice Chair for Clinical Operations, Quality, and Peer Review and was responsible for developing and directing the quality and peer review initiatives for the faculty, mid-level providers, and residents in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

His clinical interests include the management of shoulder arthritis as well as complex reconstruction of hand, wrist and elbow trauma and degenerative conditions.  He also continues to assist the University of Wisconsin Athletic Department as an Associate Team Physician and manages hand, wrist and elbow injuries in Badger athletes and continues to care for these elite and professional athletes in Chicago at RCMC.  Outside of work, he enjoys cycling, cross-country skiing, kite-boarding, guitar, and cooking.  He is married and has three children.

Dan Ariel Zlotolow, MD FAOA

Dr. Zlotolow is a Pediatric and Adult Upper Limb and Peripheral Nerve Surgeon at The Shriners Hospital for Children Philadelphia and Greenville and the Hospital for Special Surgery. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and moved to Philadelphia with his family as a young boy. Growing up in the Philadelphia suburbs, he became a scholarathlete, graduating from Conestoga High School with school-wide honors and varsity letters in both wrestling and soccer. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Microbiology from Haverford College, where he also minored in Political Philosophy. He continued to wrestle and play soccer until a knee injury took him out of athletics altogether in college. To remain involved with the teams, he became an assistant athletic trainer during college, where he learned many of the skills that would later be incorporated into the Handbook for Casting and Splinting. 

He received the Harris Scholarship to attend the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he was inducted early into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. After graduation with honors, he spent a year at the Rothman Institute as a Research Fellow before continuing on to New York City for Orthopaedic residency at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine Montefiore Medical Center. There, he was named best Orthopaedic resident and developed his love of pediatric hand surgery.

 He was fortunate to land a fellowship at the prestigious C.V. Starr Hand Surgery Center in New York City, which included training in pediatric hand surgery at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children under the direction of Peter Carter and Marybeth Ezaki. After 4 years of practice in adult and pediatric hand surgery at the University of Maryland, he was granted a second fellowship with Scott Kozin at the Philadelphia Shriners Hospital for Children. Dr. Kozin and Dr. Zlotolow have worked together ever since, teaching and learning from each other, and advancing the care of children throughout the world through education, research, and clinical excellence. 

Dr. Zlotolow specializes in the care of children with Arthrogryposis, brachial plexus and peripheral nerve injuries, spinal cord injuries, complex post-traumatic deformities, congenital differences, and limb deficiencies. He leads medical outreach missions to Havana, Cuba and Kigali, Rwanda and has founded 3 professional societies including Plexus Nexus and the Pediatric Hand International Society of Surgeons (PHISOS). He travels nationally and internationally as a visiting professor and lecturer. He was also a team leader for Zion, the first pediatric hand transplant. 

As a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Director of the Pediatric Hand Fellowship Program, he has trained over 100 Hand Surgery Fellows and at least as many Orthopaedic Residents. Several of the hand surgeons he has mentored are now prominent hand surgeons on the national and international stage. He is a leading researcher in the field of pediatric hand surgery. He has published over 100 papers, edited 3 books, including the authoritative The Pediatric Upper Extremity, and written over 60 book chapters. He has organized over 20 courses, including hand and pediatric hand specialty days at the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and the American Association of Hand Surgery. He is a co-director of the international Pediatric Upper Limb and Microsurgery lecture series. He has given over 150 national and international invited lectures and is considered a top international expert on Brachial Plexus injuries, Spinal Cord injury, the pediatric elbow, Acute Flaccid Myelitis, and Arthrogryposis. He has treated the most children with Arthrogryposis and with Acute Flaccid Myelitis in the Western Hemisphere. 

As a surgical innovator, he has designed or co-designed 3 surgical implants currently on the market and patented multiple others in development. In addition to also creating several new surgical procedures, he has traveled extensively to learn the latest innovations from surgeons around the world. He has helped to introduce the pre-vertebral contralateral C7 nerve transfer, selective denervation for spasticity, and the Capitellar Osteochondral Autograft Transfer procedure to the Americas, to name a few techniques. 

Dr. Zlotolow enjoys spending time with his wife and twin children, cooking and eating, paddle and racquet sports, traveling and learning from other cultures, scuba diving and reef aquaria, and struggling to learn guitar.
